Artist Spotlight – Jesse Malin
Having spent the last seven years on the road as a solo artist, Jesse Malin was looking for a change. The former frontman for the bands Heart Attack and D Generation had put out successfull albums, including Glitter in the Gutter (featuring a duet with Bruce Springsteen on “Broken Radio”) and the covers album On Your Sleeve (with great nods like “Everybodys Talkin’” and “Fairtyale of New York” with Bree Sharp). But Malin was looking for some new inspiration.
That inspiration came in the basement of an Avenue A bar, where Malin worked with a loose assemblage of musicians dubbed the St. Marks Social (including Don DiLego) and a revolving stable of friends like Ryan Adams and Brian Falon to put together his latest, Love It to Life. The album features Malin’s typical earnestness on a songs from the singalong-inviting opener “Burning the Bowery” to the driving barroom number “All the Way from Moscow.”
