Cappy’s Top 5 Releases of 2009

The Creamy crew was talking recently about the first album we ever bought. It’s one of those subtle topics that comes up casually and affably, but turns into a furtive game of one-upsmanship. Zune Nearing Euthanasia???
Some of you may remember or have experienced the oddity of massive amounts of Zune failing suddenly this past New Years. Dog’s Top Five Albums of 2008
We reviewed an incredible amount of music in 2008 and narrowing things down to just one list would have been just too hard for the three of us. And would have probably also resulted in some broken feelings, if not noses. So without further presentation, here is my Top Five Albums of 2008, in no [...]
Seafaring Music of 2008
Well, 2008 has been a hell of year of hope and change. As you might know the Cappy goes through hours and hours of music so he can bring you the best of the best to you the listener. This means sacrificing time and patience on some less than stellar tunage. Now keep in mind [...]

Happy Holidays! Now that it’s year’s end, Dog, Captain and I will be compiling our Top 5 Albums of 2008. 1,000 Recordings To Hear Before You Die
NPR has a great review of a new book from author Tom Moon, 1,000 Recordings To Hear Before You Die. While I haven’t read the book yet I plan to tackle all 800+ pages of it sometime soon. But as with any list like this there are always debateble selections. I’m not sure if I [...]
Cell Phone Txtn Costs More Than Gold Or Oil
Something I’ve been telling people for years is finally becoming (at least somewhat) more public. A blogger has broken down the true cost of SMS costs per message, and it’s not pretty. SMS rates have risen 100% in the past two years, keeping pace with oil, and are not even comparible to other data rates.
The results: Getting an SMS message delivered [...]

Long time follower of this story, first time writer. The bill will head to Gov. Nepolitano, whom [...]
Washington Post Wieghs In On XM/Sirius Merger
Columnist Marc Fisher for the Washington Post has now offered his two cents regarding the upcoming XM/Sirius Satellite Radio merger, and it’s not so good. Rolling Blackouts Hitting Creamy Radio?
With the first few days of 110+ degree temps hitting Phoenix a curious thing is happening at the Creamy Radio Foothills Studio: blackouts. And not from the booze as usual. There have been three minor blackouts in the last three days. One on Sunday and two on Tuesday. Neither [...]

Our hosting company has worked feverishly to bring [...]
Rolling Stone lists their 100 Greatest Guitar Songs
Sometimes, I imagine a brave new world of media in which shows,
articles, profiles and investigations
are all replaced by Top 10 Lists. Rather than a cohesive analysis of a
given topic, why not simply break it down into a largely subjective hierarchy
for easy consumption?
Imagine how much easier history class would have been if
they simply handed you [...]

There hasn’t been much to report on the still lingering issue of Performance Royalties for Internet Radio the last few months. Thanks goes out to Sen. Brownback (R-KS) for raising the issue yet again in a Senate Judiciary Hearing last Thursday. Sen. Brownback proposed ammending the Internet Radio Equality Act to another piece of Copyright [...]
Point Break Sequel In The Works
I just can’t not post this: They’re making a sequel to Point Break, a movie that lives in infamy as one of the finest Busey/Reeves works ever. Details on casting are a bit sketchy but it appears the plot involves a pro surfer who tracks a group of bank robbers emulating the [...]

McDowell Mountain Day 1 Coverage
That sound you’re hearing isn’t the impending doom of another colossal dust storm to interrupt the fifth McDowell Mountain Music Festival. It is the echo of what you should be hearing—a huge round table of fine live music that shares only one thing in common: it’s the songs, stupid. And lots of them. And make [...]

Circle K Tempe Music Festival Day 2
Day 2 of the Circle K Tempe Music Festival brings the

U2 Manager Blames ISPs For Piracy
The longtime manager of U2, Paul McGuinness, today blamed ISPs and technology companies for the music industry’s financial woes and the ongoing problem of music priacy. In a rambling and not always logically sound points, McGuinness [...]
The Writers Strike Is Driving Me To Reality
Reality TV that is… Faced with no new episodes of my favorite shows, and the football season finishing I’ve found myself (much like the Captain) partaking in the sociological train wreck of reality television. US Voting System Completely Flawed
In this the year of our election, 2008, I felt this story might be appropriate. Simply put, the plurality voting system used by the US is fundamentally [...]

As a resident of Arizona solar energy is a topic near and dear to my heart. Bruce Hornsby’s Holiday Gift to Fans
Bruce Hornsby was kind enough to give out a free two-disc download of various performances from last summer titled Happy Holidays. It’s a wonderful live compilation that gives the mildly curious an indication of just how good Bruce and the Noisemakers remain today. In fact I’d go as far as to say no [...]
Led Zeppelin Flies Again
Following months of anticipation, a reunited Led Zeppelin
took the stage Monday in London’s O2 Arena for their first full concert in
almost 30 years. The show, a benefit for the late Atlantic Records founder
Ahmet Ertegun, featured the three surviving bandmembers and the late John
Bonham’s son, Jason, sitting in on drums.
The show has been met with glowing [...]
Hillary Dumps Celine, Embraces Big Head
Some political pundits have stated that presidential hopeful
Sen. Hillary Clinton is too polarizing a political figure to secure the
nomination for the Democratic ticket. She certainly didn’t help matters when
she announced her campaign theme song would be Celine Dion’s "You and I.”
But for months, the mawkish tune by the chest-thumping Canadian has been Hillary’s
signature.
That is, until [...]

The Rare the Proud, the Random Thoughts of Your Captain
The photo of me here is from a simple Google image search of my name. It was taken of me from an anti-bullying training that I had put together. Who hasn’t googled themselves and subsequently done the same thing to another person. My first foray into this was three years ago where [...]
Saturday Night Really Live
With the ongoing Writers Guild strike is putting more shows on
hiatus, some have decided to use the time creatively. Weekend mainstay Saturday Night Live, with its assembled-that-week sketches, was among the first shows
to go to reruns. So, with time on their hands, the cast – along with several
writers and producers – put on a repeat [...]
