Point Break Sequel In The Works
I just can't not post this: They're making a sequel to Point Break, a movie that lives in infamy as one of the finest Busey/Reeves works ever. Details on casting are a bit sketchy but it appears the plot involves a pro surfer who tracks a group of bank robbers emulating the Ex-Presidents of the original movie. From the article, "Jan de Bont will be directing and the production company believes that they will be filming the 'most extreme action stunts ever caught on camera.'" Whoa.

MMMF Wrap Up and Creamy Pics
The McDowell Mountain Music Festival has completed an extrodinarily successful 5th year and we couldn't have enjoyed it more. The crowds were the best we've ever seen and the music was, as always, top-notch. We'd like to thank all the staff and volunteers at MMMF, especially Heather, Tricia, Mark, Aaron and Matty T. It was another great year for the fest and for Creamy Radio that wouldn't have been possible without all their hard work. After our own 14+ hour days we can only imagine their aches after 20+ hour days.
Thanks to Randy Ray for covering the festival for Creamy Radio, be sure to read his great witty coverage of Day 1 and Day 2.
Big props go out to Frank Thompson of the Arizona Rhythm Connection for the killer Drum Circles. Frank is The Man and you may hear him soon here on Creamy Radio...
And of course HUGE THANKS goes out to all the artists playing the Creamy Radio Acoustic Stage, including: Truckers on Speed, Shawn Johnson, Nina Curri, Junk Ditch Road, The Breadwinners, and Dorsey. These local gems make our stage at MMMF, and we couldn't have been prouder to present all of these fantastic local artists this year.
Last but most certainly not least we'd like to thank all of our listeners who entered to win tickets and all of you who didn't win but were there anyway stopping by to say hi. To all the music fans at MMMF: We couldn't have been surrounded by a better crowd all weekend long and hope to see you all back next year.
Read on for a few of our pics from the festival...

McDowell Mountain Day 2 Coverage
Here Comes the Sun. Day 2 of the McDowell Mountain Music Festival brought the slightly hot vibes in more ways than one as continental drift from various locales slammed home another excellent day of music in Scottsdale. Whereas yesterday’s events contained an intriguing mixture of new and veteran voices, Saturday delivered a far more diverse lineup as the festival kicked into a much higher gear and fulfilled its promise.
Local flavors, Florida (down in the moody Everglades) colors, West Africa (by way of North Carolina, taboot) world beats, and Jamaican (Bob Godhead disciples, mon) rastaMarleyian head trips were featured on the Main Stage, but there was a few surprising turns on the Creamy Radio acoustic stage that also filled out a bill that wasn’t lacking in either unplugged electricity or heated playing.

McDowell Mountain Day 1 Coverage
That sound you’re hearing isn’t the impending doom of another colossal dust storm to interrupt the fifth McDowell Mountain Music Festival. It is the echo of what you should be hearing—a huge round table of fine live music that shares only one thing in common: it’s the songs, stupid. And lots of them. And make them really good -- not something that has been heard ad nauseam via the radio, T.V., or at your root canal, while sitting in a dentist chair betwixt knives, mouthwash and the James Taylor deep album cuts.
Friday’s feast included a wide variety of music from a diverse and weird cross section of music that draws outside the lines of the contemporary format. One could bounce over to the gangly gaggle of drum circles on the Creamy Radio stage, take in some heady homegrown acoustic in the Fender tent by way of a sharp duo called The Latter, climb into the backseat of the Americana ride known as Truckers on Speed, or, oh yeah, lest we forget, sample some Main Stage rawk with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.
Weird? Well, it is weird to see everything happen on schedule—for the most part (let’s not split aging ponytail hairs). In tune, with a proper mix and rotating in such a way that—foot blister or not (no comment)—one could take in a week’s worth of really good music while getting a fairly decent workout. And walking in circles has so many different meanings, but it definitely falls into a surreal positive slant when you’re cutting through the grass to catch sweet soul music funneled through the sax of Steve Reynold’s band, or planting the chair for an hour’s worth of tantalizing Cajun subdudes. And for what it’s worth, when was the last time you were able to hear a lead guitarist make cricket sounds on the microphone while another ‘dude whipped his accordion around the stage, orchestrating the whole wonderful scene like an ersatz Bernstein on a Bourbon St. binge?

Happy Earth Day
Happy Earth Day - the day where we
celebrate the planet, the environment, and focus on things we can do to keep it
clean and healthy. Coincidentally, it's also the date where hippies take their
annual bath.
Here are some simple ideas for Earth Day, and every day, that can
help:
- Bring a reusable cloth bag to the grocery store for
small purchases, instead of using paper or plastic.
- Install low-flow showerheads
- Dispose of hazardous materials properly. Not just things
like car oil, but old cell phones, which contain materials that should not go
in the normal trash.
- Use rechargeable batteries to cut down on waste
- Keep doors and windows well-insulated to cut down on
energy spent on heating and cooling. You don't have to replace everything, but
just check weather stripping on windows, doors and the garage door to make sure
it's intact and provides a tight seal.
- Use fluorescent bulbs instead of incandescent
- Purchase materials that contain recycled materials
- Coordinate car travel to combine several short trips into
one longer one.
- Bring your lunch to work in reusable containers.
- Be wise about heating and cooling your home. A
one-degree adjustment to your temperature setting over 8 hours a day saves you
about 1% a year on your energy bill, which can add up. If no one is at home
during the day, raise the AC temp or lower the heating temp 10 degrees? It
doesn't take long to get your house back to comfortable when you get home, and
you could lower your annual energy bill 10%.
- Save energy by replacing an old mercury switch
thermostat with a digital one. The result will usually save you money from more
precise temperature control, and the more advanced ones can be programmed with
times to automate smart temperature regulation.
and perhaps most importantly:
- Spread the message and suggestions like these to others.
For more information, tips and
resources, please check out the Earth Day
Network.

April 19th to be Record Store Day
April 19th is going to be In-Stores Record Shops Day. This is where acts such as Jackie Greene, Steve Earl, Metallica, Reginal Spektor and Black Rebel Motorcycle will participate by appearing at various stores around the country. The event will be unparalleled in scope as hundreds of these independent record stores come together in hopes saving their embattled line of retail outlets. Here in the greater Valley of the Sun we’ll be seeing Thrice perform at Zia Records and Soundtree Records will showcase their bands with a BBQ at Stinkweeds.
